Midrash BEN ISH HAI was founded in ’86 with a vision of preserving, perpetuating and rejuvenating our holy Jewish heritage. Under the dynamic leadership of the Hakham, Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe Hy”w, it has seen tremendous growth. Starting in a basement in Queens with devoted and dedicated individuals it swelled in numbers, and it was not long before the “Midrash”, as it is commonly referred to, moved into a rented building in Rego Park, NY. Despite the amazing growth in Queens, Rabbi Menashe realized that there was an increasing need for the services of the Midrash in Great Neck, NY and so the Great Neck branch of Midrash BEN ISH HAI was born. The Midrash in Queens has continued and, in fact, expanded. But Great Neck has become the center of the Midrash’s planning and activities. Midrash BEN ISH HAI is recognized around the world as a multi-faceted organization whose activities include the highly successful and renowned lecture series of the Hakham, Rabbi Ya’a’qob Menashe. Its website, counted as one of the top ten Jewish resource sites by Emunah magazine, is visited in huge numbers daily, with questions coming from around the world. The success of its singles activities can be measured by the numbers of young Jewish men and women who have met their soul-mate there. In addition to the above, the Midrash actively pursues outreach, training children, seminars, men & boys’ choir, shiurim/classes for men and a very successful series for ladies given by Rabbanith Ruth. Prayers throughout the year are conducted both in our Queens and Great Neck locations. Yet the single largest impediment to fulfilling our holy goals has been the lack of our own building in Great Neck, from where we can plan, hold and expand our activities to serve our people even better.
